Mark Sanchez will wear #6 for the Chicago Bears

Some Chicago Bears’ fans grew accustomed to rooting against the number six jersey, which was worn by Jay Cutler from 2009 to 2016. It looks like that tradition will live on for a little while longer as Mark Sanchez, who was signed on March 23rd, will be issued jersey number six.

When the Bears traded for Cutler, he immediately became one of the most polarizing sports figures in town. Some loved the move, some hated the move, and as time wore on, the split remained. The Pro-Jay and Anti-Cutler debate waged on all over Chicago. No where did it get more heated than here at Windy City Gridiron. Just briefly mentioning Cutler in an article about the defense, would cause 200 comments to pop up about old #6.

A few weeks ago, when the Bears inked Sanchez to a one year deal, the fan-base nearly lost their collective minds. You could count me among those was against the move, but I eventually came to the conclusion that getting worked up over a 2nd or 3rd string quarterback wasn’t worth my time.

I’d still rather see a rookie quarterback get those all important number two reps in camp, but we’ll have to wait and see how things play out.

But for now at least, it just seems fitting that the jersey worn by the controversial Cutler, will move over to Mark Sanchez.

Any of you Bears’ fans planning on turning your old #6 into a Sanchez, or other “nickname” type of jersey for the new #6?
