I swear to you guys, Mock Draft season is winding down. We’re just one week away from the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and the end of the speculation on what the Chicago Bears will do with their 3rd overall pick.

The posturing, misinformation, and manipulation is nearly over, and soon we’ll know the newest member of the Bears. I’ve said all along that I believe Chicago general manager Ryan Pace has his sights set on Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, with the possibility of a trade back also likely.

But lately, I’m starting to think Pace has another guy up on his wish list too, and that’s the guy that Pro Football Focus’ Cris Collinsworth has mocked to the Bears in his latest mock draft. With Myles Garrett and Solomon Thomas off the board, he has the Bears taking Alabama defensive lineman, Jonathan Allen.

Pace has done a good job keeping his intentions secret, so my thoughts on Watson and Allen being the two prospects he’s weighing, is just a gut feeling.

Here’s what Collinsworth had to say about mocking Allen to the Bears.

I’m going to guess that John Fox really believes that Mike Glennon is his QB of the future, so the Bears will draft one of two areas of need: defensive line or cornerback. Eventually you have to beat Aaron Rodgers in the NFC North, so would you rather get an interior push to flush the Green Bay QB out of the pocket, or a corner to cover his receivers? One CB is never enough, so I guess Allen will get the call. Flushing Rodgers out of the pocket may not be the best strategy, but it will now be Allen’s job. As scouts like to say, God only made so many bodies like Allen’s, so you better get them early. Newly-acquired Akiem Hicks and Allen will be rock solid inside for the Bears.

PFF Draft Pass Stat: Led all interior defensive linemen with 67 total QB pressures in 2016.

I doubt that Pace or Fox believes that Glennon is the sure fire future at the position, otherwise he would have received a different structure to his long term contract. The Bears are protecting themselves against being stuck with Glennon beyond this year, by virtue of his deal being front loaded. If he plays great, then they have him for two more years, and if they draft a QB this year, they’ll have some options moving forward.

While I do like Allen as a prospect, I’m not taking him 3rd overall. His shoulder issues are concerning, but if he checks out medically by the Bears’ doctors, I could see him being in play for Ryan Pace.

I find it odd that when all these mocks started flying around a few months back, Allen to Chicago was a popular choice, and now that we’re a week away from the real deal, we’re starting to see Allen mocked to the Bears again.

So how pissed off would you guys be if Allen’s was the name called out for the Bears at three overall?
