In five years from now, how different will our Chicago Bears look?
First of all, I’ll stay a bit optimistic and assume that general manager Ryan Pace’s draft picks and free agency moves have panned out. If the Bears follow a similar rebuild to the Oakland Raiders, we’re talking a 5 year plan. So if Pace is still here, I think at some point he’d like to get Sean Payton, whom he knows from his time working in New Orleans, to replace head coach John Fox. Even if the Bears can get back to being a playoff contender, I can’t imagine the 62 year old Fox coaching much longer.
At quarterback, I’ll assume Mitchell Trubisky is the man, because if Pace is still in Chicago, then his gamble to move up for Trubisky must have worked.
Perennial Pro Bolwer, Kyle Long, will be winding down his career, and running back Jordan Howard will probably be third leading rusher in team history.
Leonard Floyd, if he can stay healthy, has a great shot to be top ten all time in franchise history in sacks. He had 7 as a rookie, so he only needs 30 sacks to pass Otis Wilson’s 36 sacks to be 10th all time.
But what about Kevin White and Cameron Meredith? Will one or both of these wide outs still be on the Bears?
Will Chicago have a Pro Bowl safety by then?
Will rookie tight end Adam Shaheen have some Ditkaesque games in his career?
Here are my 5 predictions for how the Bears will look in 5 years.
Sean Payton will be Chicago’s head coach.
Mitchell Trubisky will be the starting quarterback.
Adam Shaheen will be a 2 time Pro Bowl tight end.
Nick Kwiatkoski will have a Pro Bowl under his belt.
The Bears will not have won another Super Bowl.
