The Chicago Bears opened up their three day veteran minicamp earlier today, and there was no contract drama to talk about like in years past. The only real contract situation was top draft pick Mitchell Trubisky being unsigned, but he vowed to not miss any time while his people work on his deal.
Head coach John Fox met the media today after practice and he provided a few updates.
When asked about having a special package to get Trubisky some playing time, Fox didn’t necessarily say they wouldn’t do it.
Fox claims that the injured Kyle Long, Danny Trevathan and Zach Miller, will be “cutting it close for training camp, but right now they're right on target."
He says that wide out, Cameron Meredith, will ready for the start of training camp.
The Bears will ‘mess around’ with flipping starting guards Kyle Long (from RG to LG) and Josh Sitton (from LG to RG). "I don't think anything's set in stone,” according to Sitton. “They're going to to try it out and see what happens." Sitton made the Pro Bowl at both positions while in Green Bay, and Long is a Pro Bowler at multiple positions on the o-line too.
As long as the Bears have plenty of time to get these players acclimated to their new positions, I’m OK with the move.
Here’s the video from quarterback Mike Glennon and head coach John Fox meeting the media.
The Bears had three players in on a tryout basis today.
- Dominique Reed, an UDFA rookie wide out from Arkansas
- UDFA rookie offensive lineman Collin Buchanan, from Miami (OH), who “left” the Saints earlier this year
- Former New England Patriots’ 4th round draft pick (2015) Tre Jackson, who had nine starts at guard with the Pats in 2015 after playing at Florida State

Precision isn't word to use for offense as a whole though. Theme of day was drops, from opening 7-on-7's. June is the time for them. #Bears— Arthur Arkush (@ArthurArkush) June 13, 2017
