Ten Thoughts on the NFL

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Giants Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

1) If the PUP listed Andrew Luck isn’t ready for the start of the Indianapolis Colts’ season, they could end up in a hole in what should be a competitive AFC South. The good news is they start with two NFC opponents.

Speaking of Luck, is he “elite” or nah?

2) The Changers have been snake-bitten of late with injuries, so hearing that seventh overall pick, wide out Mike Williams, should be back by October is good news for quarterback Philip Rivers.

Did you realize that Rivers is 12th all time in passing yards? Is the six time Pro Bowler hall Of Fame bound?

3) But about those newly relocated Chargers. Yes it’s a preseason game, and yes, they are in a temporary home, but these attendance numbers...

The Galaxy is the local soccer team.

4) This is crazy.

And he’s angling for a dual sport gig with one of the New York MLS franchises.

5) The Jacksonville JaguarsLeonard Fournette, their prized rookie running back, is sidelined with a foot injury.

He also said this about the speed of the NFL, via NFL.com.

"It's a lot slower than I really thought," Fournette told me. "That's how I've been since I first got into the NFL. A lot of people were like, 'It's going to be fast.' But by me playing in the SEC, that kind of helped me a lot. I think, to me, it was really easy."

This also happened early in training camp...

6) Guess who might get the start this week?

Miami head coach Adam Gase said that Jay Cutler “pretty much” has his offense down.

7) The Detroit Lions may have found a gem in the third round in Northern Illinois’ and St. Rita high school’s Kenny Golladay. The wide receiver has been a star of camp, then in his preseason opener he caught three for 53 yards, and 2 TDs.

I mocked the 6’4”, 213 pounder to the Bears a couple times, and I was hoping they’d grab the local product. Now he’s a Lion...

8) Ex Bear QB, Matt Barkley, is in danger of losing his #2 job in San Francisco to rookie C.J. Beathard. When the 49ers took the Iowa quarterback in the third round, most NFL analysts scoffed at the pick. But now after a solid camp and a preseason debut that saw C.J. go 7 of 11 for 101 yards and 2 TDs.

9) Many Chicago Bears’ fans were fired up after rookie Mitchell Trubisky’s preseason debut, but let’s take a peek at a national take. From NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks.

The rookie quarterback might force coach John Fox to reconsider his stance on the team's QB situation. Trubisky immediately sparked the offense when he entered the game, completing 18 of 25 passes for 166 yards and a score against Denver. He displayed the full arsenal of a QB1, exhibiting outstanding touch, timing and anticipation on quick-rhythm throws. In addition, Trubisky flashed impressive athleticism and mobile playmaking ability on a handful of bootlegs to his right and left. Considering how well the rookie performed in his debut against the Broncos' backups, he could make a move up the depth chart sooner than expected. Grade: A

I know the popular narrative is that the Bears will play Glennon because they paid him all that money, but who do you think GM Ryan Pace, the man who paid him all that money, would rather see win the job?

...remind anyone else of this pic?

The bottom picture is of the rare Sasquatch, while the top could be an early pic of something just as rare.
