The Chicago Bears have already announced the players that will not play on Saturday night against the Arizona Cardinals.
They are as follows...
RB - Jordan Howard
RB - Jeremy Langford
WR - Josh Bellamy
WR - Markus Wheaton
G - Kyle Long
ILB - Danny Trevathan
ILB - Jonathan Anderson
ILB - Alex Scearce
CB - Bryce Callahan
DL - Mitch Unrein
DL - Kapron Lewis-Moore
The big surprise up there is the first guy I listed, Pro Bowl running back, Jordan Howard, suffered a corneal abrasion during Friday’s walk through. The injury is not expected to be serious. For those wondering what a corneal abrasion is, it’s a scratched cornea or a scratched eye, and according to allaboutvision.com, it is “one of the most common eye injuries.” Howard won’t even make the trip to Arizona, presumably so he can receive treatment on his eye, because “when treated right away, most corneal abrasions result in a full recovery with no permanent vision loss.”
The Josh Bellamy injury may provide more opportunities for popular UDFA Tanner Gentry. Last week, Gentry had 27 snaps on offense and 2 on special teams. Bellamy, who is known for his stellar play in the 3rd phase, appeared in 6 special team’s snaps, and 29 on offense.
The three injuries to inside linebackers may be a reason they signed Kelvin Sheppard earlier today.
UPDATE: Per WGN’s Adam Hoge, Prince Amukamara (CB), Nick Kwiatkoski (ILB) and Akiem Hicks (DL) also will not play tonight.
