How will the Bears replace Cameron Meredith?

Losing the player that was set to be your number one wide out is not a good way to start your week, but that looks to be the case for the Chicago Bears and third year player Cameron Meredith. The initial reports from yesterday were that Meredith has, at the very least, a torn ACL, but today’s MRI will reveal the true nature of the injury.

EDIT: The MRI revealed a torn ACL, but more tests are being done to determine if there’s more damage to the knee.

Judging by what head coach John Fox said after the game, the team is expecting to be without Meredith for the 2017 season.

Kevin White is the obvious choice top step into that #1WR spot for the Bears, but he’s only played four games in two years. They may also turn to veteran free agent additions Markus Wheaton, who is currently rehabbing a broken finger, Kendall Wright, who seems to have the slot receiver spot locked up, or Victor Cruz, who has the pedigree, but has been struggling to make an impact this preseason.

The returning Deonte Thompson and Josh Bellamy, both known for their special teams play, could also be in the mix.

Titus Davis played early on Sunday, so he could be an option. The Bears also have Alton Howard, Daniel Braverman, and the exciting UDFA Tanner Gentry in the position group if they stay in house.

A quick peek at the free agent wide outs isn’t very exciting.

(List via Spotrac)

Vincent Jackson - The 34 year old veteran had 15 catches last year

Eddie Royal - Been there done that

Stevie Johnson - Hasn’t played since 2015

Percy Harvin - He’s retired, but maybe could be coaxed to return

Dorial Green-Beckham - No team since 2015

Jordan Norwood - He’s more of a slot guy, but he had 21 catches last year

Marc Mariani - See Royal, Eddie

Stedman Bailey - He was shot in 2015, but has been looking to get back into the league

You can check the full list if you want, but there isn’t much out there. I’d be OK with them riding with the group they have.

There’s also a chance a team cuts a decent player this weekend, so we’ll have to wait and see.

What do you guys want to see the Bears do?
