Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers: Thursday Night Football Pre-Party Open Thread

Thursday Night Football brings us the first edition of the 2017 Bears-Packers rivalry.

NFL Week 4. Bears-Packers. Thursday Night Football.

I really don’t need to say more. But in the interest of actually filling out the piece, the tightest rivalry in pro sports (no, seriously, they’re tied 94-94-6 with the Packers leading by four points in aggregate scoring) resumes tonight with a somewhat-mortal-looking Packers team taking on the rumbling (occasionally bumbling, once-in-a-while stumbling) Chicago Bears.

Yes, the Packers are 2-1, coming off an overtime win against the Bengals after looking... uninspiring against the Falcons (and maybe the Seahawks aren’t much to write home about this year either). Yes, Aaron Rodgers is still one of the top quarterbacks in the league. But outside of that, they haven’t really had a whole lot going for them. They have their top 5 offensive tackles likely to miss the game and could miss Mike Daniels and Nick Perry tonight, but they list Randall Cobb as likely to play, and we all remember a certain play Cobb made against the Bears to eliminate them from postseason contention.

But the Packers are vulnerable, and if the Navy and Orange hope to capitalize on that, it begins with the same formula they used against the Steelers - lots of Joystick and Rumble Pak action. Tarik Cohen and Jordan Howard came up huge last week, and a heavy dose of the run game makes everything easier on Mike Glennon and an aerial attack that just doesn’t get off the ground.

Anything can happen on Bears-Packers Week... so let’s see what they’ve got this year.

Link Section Under Construction, much like Green Bay traffic apparently. Check Back Later.

A reminder of the procedures here for gameday. Night game tonight, so the first thread will go off with the first quarter, with subsequent threads appearing as the game goes forward. At the conclusion of the game, we’ll have our instant recap, and in the morning and all next week we’ll have all our detailed breakdowns and all that fun stuff.

So with all the propers out of the way... Bear Down.

Mostly under construction because I have to get the rest of this set up. We’re going to do a special one-hour edition of the WCG Sunday Livestream on Thursday to take you up to gametime.

It’ll just be me, but I’ll tell you what I saw and we’ll talk about how things can play out going forward.

Of course, if you want to get your thoughts in, feel free to use any of these avenues to get a hold of me:

  • By commenting in the comment sections of the commentary that is this comment-driven website. If you haven’t noticed, we love your comments. Down there.
  • Over on the Twitch side, over here.
  • Over on our Twitters. We like taking your Tweets as questions and comments (and occasional technical support... don’t ask...). I’m at @SJS_illini. If Sam were here, he’d be at @SamHouseholder.

We’ll be live shortly. See you then...
