Despite fears that one of the 31 other teams in the NFL would swoop in and snag the undrafted free agent out of Wyoming, wide receiver Tanner Gentry has been signed to the Chicago Bears’ practice squad.
Many seemed to fear that Gentry would be a top target for other teams given his solid off-season performance, but it seems like not every team no team was anxious to sort through the castoffs of a 3-13 franchise in the midst of a rebuild.
Gentry’s four receptions (for a total of 77 yards and a touchdown) in preseason were apparently not enough to lure other GMs to the 6’2” Colorado native. As a result, fans can breathe more easily. The famed Trubisky-Gentry connection will have a chance to develop.
Gentry is not completely safe, however. There is still the chance that another team could sign him to their regular squad so long as they were willing to use one of their 53 roster spots on him. However, for now he is back in the Navy and Orange.

Umm...he’s an undrafted rookie wide receiver out of a minor college. Of course he cleared.

If Gentry makes or breaks this team it has bigger problems.
