Let's take a look at the last 25 years of #8 draft picks. Due to the average length of an NFL career being 4 years, we are still 1 year away from analyzing the success of the 2014 draft. Hence, the picks we are looking at are from 1988-2013.

– Dave Cadigan – 2nd tackle off the board. Tackle at USC but the Jets picked him as a guard. He flunked the steroid test at the Combine. Complete bust. They could have had WR Michael Irvin picked 3 spots later. *Featured on top 10 worst draft picks in Jets history.

– Burt Grossman – Top of his position in draft. DE (EDGE) picked by the Chargers. Had 10 sacks in both his rookie and sophomore years. Had 43.5 career sacks before a neck injury finished his career.

– Chris Singleton – 2nd LB off the board. Taken by the Patriots. Started 22 games. Bust. *Featured on top 10 worst draft picks in Patriots history.

– Antone Davis – 2nd tackle off the board. Tackle for the Eagles. Bust. *Featured on top 10 worst draft picks in Eagles history.

– Bob Whitfield – Top of his position in draft. Tackle for 12 seasons for the Falcons. One of the best picks they’ve had in team history.

– Willie Roaf – Top of his position in the draft. Hall-of-Fame tackle for the Saints. 11 Pro-Bowls & 3 All-Pro selections.

– Sam Adams – Top of his position in the draft. DE who transitioned to DT. Successful pick. Played for 12 years across the league.

– Joey Galloway – 2nd WR off the board. Great career.

– Tim Biakabutuka – 2nd RB off the board. Never topped 800yds in a season. Bust. *Featured on top 10 worst draft picks in Panthers history.

– James Farrior – 2nd LB off the board. To be fair, the top player at his position was Peter Boulware, so it wasn’t exactly a drop off in talent from 1 to 2. In usual Jets fashion, they used him incorrectly as an OLB and let him leave after his rookie contract was done. He went to the Steelers and they used him in his natural position of ILB and he finished with 1412 tackles.

– Greg Ellis – 3rd DE off the board. The Cowboys picked a great pass rusher who finished with 84 sacks. The two taken before him were Grant Wistrom (#6) who finished with 53 sacks and Andre Wadsworth (#3) who was a total bust.

– David Boston – 2nd WR off the board. Mildly successful for the Cardinals. Who would have figured so many growth horomones could go into a single human being.

– Plaxico Burress – 2nd WR off the board. Good pick. At least the Steelers didn’t shoot themselves in the leg and take Peter Warrick like the Bengals did.

– David Terrell – Top of his pos……. whatever. Bust.

– Roy Williams – Top of his position in the draft. As a FS, not to be confused with Roy Williams the WR, the Cowboys picked a good player. Fantastic career. 5 time Pro-Bowl selection.

– Jordan Gross – Top of his position in the draft. Stalwart tackle for the Panthers. 10 year starter.

– DeAngelo Hall – Top of his position in the draft. Fantastic CB drafted by the Falcons. Now a safety with the Redskins. 43 career interceptions and counting.

– Antrel Rolle – 2nd DB off the board. Mildly successful pick for the Cardinals (just like 1999).

– Donte Whitner – 2nd SS off the board. An ummmmm pick for the Bills. Played okay. Really found his career in San Fransisco. Still an on-again, off-again player. When he is on, he is a Pro-Bowl type player. When he is off, it’s anyone’s guess.

– Jamaal Anderson – 2nd DE off the board. Picked by the Falcons but not to be confused with former Falcons RB Jamal Anderson. This Jamaal Anderson was a bust.

– Derrick Harvey – 2nd DE off the board. *Featured on top 10 worst draft picks in Jaguars history. To be fair, the entire 1st round of that year’s draft was a big blech. Bust.

– Eugene Monroe – 2nd tackle off the board. One of the better picks in Jaguars history. Finished his rookie contract and went to the Ravens where injuries derailed a promising career.

– Rolando McClain – Top of his position in the draft. Total bust. *Featured on top 10 worst draft picks in Raiders history.

– Jake Locker – 2nd QB off the board. The Titans picked a doozy here. When healthy, he wasn’t half bad. When half of his 4 year career is unhealthy, that’s bad. Bust. *Featured on top 10 worst draft picks in Titans history.

– Ryan Tannehill – 3rd QB off the board. Jury is still out. It’s not looking great.

– Tavon Austin – Top at his position in the draft. Bust.

That’s 10 busted picks, 10 successful picks, and 4 meh’s and 1 TBD’s. How good do you feel about the #8 pick?
