Week 6 Picks

After a few down weeks on picking, I guess I was due for a correction. If you can call 10-5 a correction. Let's take a brief look at how that happened before getting into this week's picks.

The interesting thing is, both Vegas and 538 also went 10-5, but the actual picks were vastly different. One could argue I'm missing easy games by going against the two (IND-NE, for example), but then I'm also picking some upsets correctly (SF-ARI, BAL-CLE). Not sure if that's because I'm a broken clock, but it probably is. Perhaps we'll know after this week...

My picks, along with Vegas (Wednesday morning) and 538

Eagles @ Giants:
The Giants are on the upswing. The Eagles are in a bit of a rut. I expect that to continue, though since this is a divisional game, it should be close and feisty. Wentz is slowly rounding into form, but it'll be a few more weeks before he's ready to carry this RB-less squad on his own.

Chargers @ Browns:
While Vegas and 538 disagree with me on this one, I don't see this as much of an upset. I think the Browns are playing fairly well (and I believe everyone, including the NFL, knows they should have won that game last weekend), while the Chargers are giving us the ol' Jekyll-and-Hyde number. Both teams are pretty solid on both sides of the ball, and I think Mayfield pulls out a victory that might be a "vintage moment" when we look back on his career.

Seahawks @ Raiders:
The 'Hawks nearly toppled the Goliath that is the Los Angeles Rams. The Raiders got a boost from some questionable refereeing to fend off the Browns in OT. I think the teams carry their respective momentum into this game, and Derek Carr outduels Wilson to put Oakland on a little W streak.

Colts @ Jets:
Darnold has the luxury of being the unquestioned starter on a team with enough surrounding talent to boost him when he needs it. He's also show the ability to pull off some "WOW" plays, mixed in with a few head-scratching decisions. Andrew Luck might think he's looking at a younger version of himself. Neither of these teams is an "easy" win, and I think Indy's defense proves a little too much for the rookie.

Bears @ Dolphins:
Miami has cooled off after their 3-0 start, and it doesn't get any easier for them this week. Vic Fangio and the defense spent the last 3 years going against Gase and Loggains. I'm not expecting a shutout or anything, but I think the defense gives the offense some breathing room, and the offense holds up their end of the bargain to bring home the W.

The NFL picture is rather muddled this year. Plenty of teams smack in the middle of the standings (2-3 losses), which means the next few weeks will be pivotal for playoff hopefuls. There are also teams like the Bears, who look to sustain their winning ways over the remainder of the season. October should be plenty of fun!
