Walter Payton went for 2,121 yards from scrimmage, and 16 touchdowns (in 14 games) during the 1977 season, leading a, frankly, otherwise not very good Bears team to the playoffs in the process. He won league MVP that season, and deservedly so. Perhaps more than any other, that was WALTER’S team. He was their everything. And he did not disappoint.
