Eddie Jackson has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Is Eddie Jackson the best safety in football?

NFL: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
The kid can play. And the NFL is starting to notice.

Eddie Jackson has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after a stand out performance in Detroit on Thanksgiving day, which saw him perfectly jump a Matthew Stafford pass and take it to the house. It was Jackson’s 3rd defensive touchdown this season, and his 5th in two years, the most in the NFL in that time frame. Matter of fact, it’s the most in the NFL since 2015... Not too shabby for a player drafted in 2017.

Jackson has been enjoying a fantastic sophomore year in Chicago after being drafted in the 4th round by Ryan Pace last year. He certainly showed flashes of play making ability as a rookie, but his growth in year two in Vic Fangio’s defense has been truly remarkable. He may well be Ryan Pace’s best draft selection in his tenure with the Bears, and his best is likely yet to come.

Eddie joins team mates Danny Trevathan, Mitchell Trubisky and Cody Parkey as the fourth Bears player to be awarded an NFC Player of the Week honor this year, and the third in as many weeks. In case you were wondering, the last time the Bears pulled that off was 2010 when Hester, Peppers, and Cutler accomplished the same feat in weeks 10-12 (props to our own Jack M. Silverstein for that nugget!).

If you hadn’t noticed, the Bears are playing good football in 2018. It’s a good time to be a fan.
