Good morning. Remember that time when the Bears were .500? Me neither, because after dropping to that record following two losses to the Dolphins and Patriots, the Bears reeled off five straight, including a three-game divisional gauntlet in twelve days, as they rocketed to a game and a half lead in the NFC North.
Playing relevant football in December for the first time in four years and with the Vikings hot on their tails, the Bears have a chance to try to seal the division in the next few weeks, and if they’re going to do that, a win this week against the Giants is fairly imperative.
No, it’s not a given under any stretch, and with wins in two of their last three games and two of the top skill position players in the NFC, if not the league, in Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr, the Giants have some teeth. And another week of rest for Mitchell Trubisky sets up Chase Daniel’s first back-to-back starting sequence of his career.
But the Navy and Orange have made a living all year on beating the teams they should, and doing so convincingly. Daniel’s first start led to a fairly decent 230-yard, two touchdown performance and he looked in command of the offense enough to carry the team through another game, and a Giants team allowing 38 sacks so far this season has a ferocious, widespread Bears’ pass rush to contend with.
Road games are never easy. To 9-3. Bear Down, my friends.
