With all the additions coming in to Chicago, there are a few departures expected. A more notable departure comes in the form of Christian Jones, as he will reportedly sign with the Detroit Lions once the new league year of 2018 officially begins. Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news.
Since being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Florida State in 2014, Jones has seen plenty of action. During his time with the Bears, he’s only missed one game, and started in 31 of them. His starts have been both at inside and outside linebacker, which is a likely reason why new Detroit head coach Matt Patricia and the Lions were attracted to him. He’s recorded a total of 173 tackles, 4 sacks, 8 passes defended, and a forced fumble.
The Bears will certainly miss seeing Jones in the linebacker corps as far as depth, but it isn’t a backbreaking move. And, this presents another loss that general manager Ryan Pace and company can compensate for. No word has been mentioned yet in free agency as to what Chicago’s current plan is for their linebacking corps.
