2018 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears fans, who’s your guy?

The Bears are slated to pick No. 8 overall. Who do you want at that slot?

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The 2018 NFL Draft gets started tomorrow night at 7:00 Central, and with the Chicago Bears set to pick No. 8 overall, they should go on the clock right around 8:15. Each team has ten minutes to make their picks in the first round, so if you’re going to be flipping around the channels, make sure to get back to the draft in time to see who general Ryan Pace selects as the newest Bear.

All the latest buzz has four quarterbacks set to go off the board early, so the Bears will get a damn good football player if they stay at No. 8. On Tuesday, Pace said he has eight players he’s comfortable drafting in the first round. Even if he trades back a few spots the odds are high he’ll get one of the players in his “cloud.”

With Mitchell Trubisky firmly entrenched as his quarterback, none of the quarteback prospects will be in Pace’s cloud. My guess for his eight players mirrors my colleague Robert Zeglinski’s guess.

Notre Dame, OG, Quenton Nelson
Virginia Tech, LB, Tremaine Edmunds
Marcus Davenport, Edge, UTSA
Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
Derwin James, S, Florida State
Roquan Smith, ILB, Georgia
Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State
Harold Landry, Edge, Boston College

I don’t think NC State’s Bradley Chubb is in his eight because I don’t think there’s any way he falls to them. But if he does, I think he’d be the selection.

I also don’t think Penn State’s Saquon Barkley is in his eight because I don’t think he’d take a running back that high in the first round.

My guy in this group is Nelson.

But he’s a guard!

And I’m okay with that. He’ll keep pressure out of the franchise quarterback’s face, and he’ll open holes for the Pro Bowl running back. If the Bears take Nelson at No. 8, and he makes several All-Pro teams, no one will gripe that he went in the top ten.

I also think Nelson is Pace’s top choice. If he’s gone I think Pace goes with Edmunds. That’s exactly how I mocked it in the SB Nation writer’s mock.

If both are gone, I have no idea who Pace will take. I’d actually be fine if any of the guys I’ve mentioned were the pick in the first round for the Bears.

But what about you guys?
