With the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:
With the #8 pick in the 2018 #NFLDraft, we select… Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia.

Welcome to Chicago, @RoquanSmith1. ⬇️#BearsDraft pic.twitter.com/T2fKhLqsA8
As you might imagine, there are some people who like the addition of Roquan Smith. There are a lot more people who don’t like the move. These are their takes.
Say what you will about the source, but ...
The best football player in this draft is Roquan Smith. Leader, hitter, gamer, football player.
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) April 26, 2018
And he doubled down ...
Bears just got a FOOTBALL PLAYER, the best defensive player at his position. Leader, hitter, baller. Another great Bears linebacker. A Chicago-style throwback: Roquan Smith.
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) April 27, 2018
Some more Roquan love ...
Can't WAIT to see Vic Fangio work with LB Roquan Smith. Big get. BIG.
— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) April 27, 2018
This can only be a good thing ... right?
Text from a friend who's a Packers fan, on Roquan Smith: "Such a Bears player too. As a packers fan it's sickening."
— JJ Stankevitz (@JJStankevitz) April 27, 2018
The Score’s Danny Parkins getting involved in the love fest ...
I see no way Roquan Smith busts. Just a question of how high his ceiling is and how much of an impact he can make as a 3-4 inside linebacker.
— Danny Parkins (@DannyParkins) April 27, 2018
I am not sure if Vic Fangio makes this face, but if he does, I think a hole-in-one might have been more face-worthy...

A little love from The Athletic ...?
Wrote about new #Bears LB Roquan Smith here. So much to like about his game. https://t.co/hHhhsTw7xT pic.twitter.com/xMK2acMp63

This is a thread, but I strongly advise going down this rabbit hole...

Come to think of it, there isn’t much negative about Smith right now ...
Roquan Smith is an absolute badass, who dominated all season and raised the level of his game in the CFB Playoffs too. Thought the Bears would not value ILB enough to take him, but I love that they did. I bet he’s gonna be a great pro.
— M@ (@MattSpiegel670) April 27, 2018
There couldn’t possibly be more love, could there?
Roquan Smith for the #Bears was the absolute best selection for Chicago with this spot.
— Bill Zimmerman (@ZimmermanSXM) April 27, 2018
It just keeps coming!!!
Roquan Smith next to Danny Trevathan in the Bears' 3-4 is nasty. Can't wait to see Vic Fangio at work with that duo.
— Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) April 27, 2018
The Hoge has gotten in on the action ...
Nobody is winning #NFLDraft Day like #Bears DC Vic Fangio. Got a hole-in-one earlier today and now adds Roquan Smith to his defense.
— Adam Hoge (@AdamHoge) April 27, 2018
For those concerned.
The "can't get off blocks" is overblown.
— Robert Zeglinski (Georgia Reunion) (@RobertZeglinski) April 27, 2018
Roquan Smith's best asset is avoiding blocks altogether because he reads and reacts to plays so quickly. He rarely has to do it.
It's a minimal concern considering that he gets access to an NFL strength program and coach now. https://t.co/a9zUarIvqO
And a little more from Z-Rob.
Brian Urlacher couldn't get off blocks when he was drafted by the Bears too.
— Robert Zeglinski (Georgia Reunion) (@RobertZeglinski) April 27, 2018
He never totally fixed that. He didn't have to.
"Undersized" LB's like Roquan Smith (fits Fangio's preference) are football's future.
When you can read and react like Smith, you'll ball regardless.
Also for those concerned.
Roquan Smith is one of those picks some fans simply may not get until they see him on the field & how big of a potential impact he can have on that defense. Focus should be mainly defense after what they did in FA. #Bears

The Godfather speaks!
I’m good with the Roquan Smith pick. He’s a plug and play player for the #Bears next to Trevathan, he’s a tackling machine, his instincts are good and he can cover. He makes the Bears’ D better.
— Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. (@wiltfongjr) April 27, 2018
Can I get a highlight?
Roquan Smith--not fooled, or even slowed, by this option fake and pitch. #Bears

I may have been the only person who wasn’t ecstatic.
For the record, I absolutely HATE the #Bears pick. You take a position that you don’t need with a top-10 pick? Sorry, I can’t get on board with this.
— Andrew Link (@BearsLink82) April 27, 2018
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the player. I would have preferred a position that still doesn’t have a clear cut starter, like outside linebacker, left guard, or could use more of an upgrade, like right tackle But that’s just me.
