The Chicago Bears have concluded their rookie minicamp, and as expected they have signed a few of the tryout undrafted free agents that participated. Earlier today Jacob brought us the news that they were signing John Franklin III from Florida Atlantic, but he wasn’t their only new additions.
The Score’s Chris Emma is reporting that they are signing South Florida offensive guard Jeremi Hall after his tryout this weekend. Hall was named to the Pro Football Focus All-AAC Firsti Team in 2017, and to the actual All-AAC First Team as voted on by their coaches. The 6’5”, 307 pounder started twenty-five games at left guard for the Bulls the last two years. He was listed at 330 pounds in college, but he appears to have slimmed down for his pro day.
Wide receiver Matt Flemming, a local player from Chicago’s Simeon high school and Lisle’s Benedictine University, tweeted out that he was a new member of the Bears. Chicago head coach Matt Nagy even mentioned the rookie UDFA by name (via the Chicago Sun Times), “I think the one kid that stood out was Matt Fleming. Not a real big kid but he made his assignments, did his job, made some nice catches.”
Also from the Sun Times;
The 6-0, 180-pound Fleming, who applied for the draft with a year of college eligibility remaining, had 45 receptions for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He was second in the long jump and ran on the winning 4 x 100 relay team for Benedictine at the Division III track and field championships last spring.
Both Hall and Flemming will have a lot of work ahead of them, but making the 90-man offseason roster has to be a great confidence booster as they now prepare for Chicago’s first OTA which takes place this week from May 15th through the 17th.
