In a mildly surprising move, the Chicago Bears have placed undrafted free agent Ryan Nall on waivers. If he goes unclaimed, he’ll likely make it back to the Bears and their 10-man practice squad.

As a tailback he would have been fourth on the depth chart had he stuck around behind Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen and Benny Cunningham. As a fullback he was in competition with Michael Burton.

Nall was used at fullback in the Bears’ preseason finale against the Bills, but he didn’t show enough for the Bears to justify keeping him on the 53-man roster. If fullback is in his future, he’ll need to work on the technique that goes along with being a lead blocker. From the little I saw of him in the Bills’ game, he did show knowledge to turn his man away from the hole, but his next step would be to get some movement as a lead blocker. Tight end and H-back could also be a long tern possibility for Nall. We’ll have to wait and see if he makes it back to the practice squad.
