Bears place Kyle Long on IR, sign Abdullah Anderson

The Bears make it official and place Kyle Long on injured reserve.

The Chicago Bears have officially placed right guard Kyle Long on injured reserve, and to take his place on the 53-man roster they have signed defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson from their practice squad. To take Anderson’s spot on the practice squad, the Bears have signed tight end Dax Raymond.

Some thought it would be Notre Dame rookie Alex Bars that was elevated from the practice squad to fills Long’s roster spot, but with Akiem Hicks and Bilal Nichols still out the Bears went defensive line over offensive line. To get the start at Long’s right guard spot, it’ll either be Ted Larsen or Rashaad Coward, but it was Coward who lined up with the number ones today.

It’s still possible that Bars is called up before Sunday’s game, but the Bears will want to see how practice participation shapes up this week with their injured players before making another roster move. Larsen is coming off an injury that prevented him from making the trip to London, and if quarterback Mitchell Trubisky can’t go against the Saints, they’ll need to bring Tyler Bray back up.

We’ll find out more in the coming week so stay tuned...
