Have our resident bettors completely turned on the Bears? The oddsmakers sure have

This is the first game since week 17 of last year that the Bears enter as underdogs and who could blame the oddsmakers?

The Bears have a losing record, have done next to nothing offensively and have lost three straight.

Philadelphia, for all of their issues, had a good game last week against Buffalo and are showing the fight that the Bears are lacking.

Before we get more into the game, let’s look back at last week.

Once again, Sam hit on both the Chargers +4 and the under, while Jeff, ever the optimist, picked the other side of the spread but also hit the total.

We lost just one player last week (Sorry TJ), but other than him forgetting to lock in a play, everyone else had a clean week, no strikes picked up. We’re down to just seven players with no strikes.

In the pick ‘em league, WhiteH2O leads by just one point (66 to 65). Each of our WCG pickers broke into the top 10, with Lester in tenth, Jeff at ninth and Sam up in seventh.

Bears at Eagles (-5), O/U 42.5

Sam: Asking the Bears to stay within a touchdown of a team averaging 25 points per game seems like a tall ask. The Bears have struggled against the Eagles, losing four straight meetings and 11 of the past 16 meetings (including playoffs). Chicago has covered only twice in the last five games.

These isn’t a whole lot to hold your hat on. Other than perhaps the Bears’ pass rush find itself after disappearing for all of October, maybe they can pressure Wentz into some mistakes and turnovers. Barring that, I don’t see how the Bears can hold a candle to the Eagles’ offense.

I am on the over though, it just seems random enough (or maybe the Eagles will score enough) to hit it.

As for a survivor pick, I can’t pick against the Dolphins this week because the Jets are bad enough that I’m not sure what will happen in that game (and it would be very Jets to lose to the winless Dolphins).

So I’m rolling with the Seahawks hosting the Bucs. I haven’t burned Seattle yet and they should take care of business at home.

Picks: Eagles -5, over 42.5, Seahawks (survivor)

Bears record: 9-4 (5-2 ATS)

Jeff: Oh, Sam... I’m not excited about this game. I haven’t been excited about it for awhile. Just when the Bears get something going in the run game, they draw the mighty Eagles front 7. The way to beat this Eagles team is to pass on that vulnerable secondary. Do we think that Trubisky can take advantage? I’m just not willing to go there at this point. As much as it pains me to say it, give me the Eagles -5. As for the over/under, I’m actually kind of digging the over. The Bears defense might be put in some difficult positions like last week and Wentz is much more dangerous at this point than Rivers. I’ll take the over for the first time in awhile.

Survivor? I went with the 49ers, once again hitting up the dangerous Thursday night games. Let’s hope it worked out for me. (Editor: It did!)

Picks: Eagles -5, over 42.5, 49ers (survivor)

Can the Bears get the upset? Will they cover? What games are you locking in this week?
