The injuries are starting to pile up for the Chicago Bears, who are already without defensive linemen Akiem Hicks and offensive lineman Kyle Long, both of whom are on injured reserve, and inside linebacker Danny Trevathan could join them there after that troubling elbow injury last Sunday. For now at least, Trevathan is on the active roster, but this week he’s officially listed as out for the Los Angeles Rams Game.
He’s one of four Bears already ruled out, so I would expect a roster move or two to happen on Saturday. Joining Trevathan on the sidelines this week is outside linebacker Isaiah Irving (quad), and tight ends Trey Burton (calf) and Adam Shaheen (foot).
Irving has missed the last couple games as well, and to take his place the Bears have been signing James Vaughters off their practice squad.
With two tight ends already ruled out that bodes well for frequent cut candidate, Bradley Sowell, to stick around for the Sunday nighter, but the Bears do have two undrafted free agent tight ends, in Jesper Horsted and Dax Raymond, on their practice squad that they could move up.
The Bears had two players practice in a limited fashion today, but only running back David Montgomery received an injury designation (questionable). Defensive tackle Bilal Nichols will play on Sunday.
Montgomery rolled his ankle at Wednesday’s practice and head coach Matt Nagy said, “It was good to get him back out there,” but that, “he’s gonna end up being a game-time decision for us.”
If Montgomery can’t go we could see Tarik Cohen, Ryan Nall, and Cordarrelle Patterson with more carries that usual, but the Bears could also bring Kerrith Whyte Jr. up from the practice squad.
Besides this week’s injury list for L.A., which we’ll share below, the Rams recently put their starting center, Brian Allen, on injured reserve, and last month they put starting left guard Joseph Noteboom on IR.
For this week, they’ll be without their starting right tackle, Rob Havenstein, who has a knee injury, defensive back Dariuos Williams and wide receiver Brandin Cooks are also ruled out.
The Rams list three tight ends as questionable, Tyler Higbee, Gerald Everett, and Johnny Mundt.
