As expected, the Chicago Bears have activated defensive lineman Akiem Hicks from injured reserve and he will play on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
Hicks hurt his elbow week five against the Raiders and he was placed on injured reserve on October 15. In four games this season he has 6 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, and 3 quarterback hits, but the numbers don’t tell the whole story for Hicks. His presence (6’4”, 352 pounds) in the middle of the Bears defensive line helps the entire front seven. His ability to anchor is a detriment to running backs and his ability to eat up double teams helps everyone on the pass rush.
Chris Mortensen was the first to report Hicks’ return, and as soon as the Bears make an official announcement with the player waived to make room for him we’ll update this article.
EDIT: The Bears made it official, and the corresponding roster move was to place tight end Ben Braunecker on injured reserve.
