A week after the Cleveland Browns signed interior offensive lineman Eric Kush away from the Chicago Bears, they doubled down on back-up Bears’ lineman by signing Bryan Witzmann earlier today.
Witzmann started seven games for the Bears last year at right guard in place of Kyle Long, but with Chicago adding interior offensive lineman Ted Larsen, they felt comfortable moving on from Witzmann for the 2019 season.
Larsen can play all three interior spots for the Bears, but he’s the only experienced back-up left on the roster. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one more veteran brought in to compete or to see the Bears draft someone that can play on the interior.
One plus to Witzmann being signed away is that it will be another free agent lost added to compensatory pick formula (per @Brad_OTC).
