Bears sign kicker with ominous name

He Blewitt. I mean, that’s the guy’s name.

NCAA Football: North Carolina at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Tribune beat reporter Brad Biggs tweeted that the Chicago Bears have signed a second kicker following another tryout today:

Blewitt (yes, it’s his real name), played at Pitt, finishing his career in 2016. He hasn’t been in the NFL, although Biggs reports he had a tryout with the Steelers in 2017.

In his senior season he was 10-of-17. As a freshman, way back in 2013 he was 14-of-18.

Biggs says that Blewitt came to the team’s attention after watching a stream of a kicking camp hosted by Jamie Kohl, a specialist expert that works with draft prospects (which is why the thing was streamed and not attended) and pros alike. Nearly 100 players were involved in Kohl’s event last month.

Blewitt joins Redford Jones, formerly of Tulsa, as the other competition to replace Cody Parkey, whom Ryan Pace confirmed last week at the Combine would be released next week.

The only name worse for this kid would be Chris Doink.

The Bears also met with some kickers at the Combine last week.

Sound off: Will one of these guys be the kicker on opening day, or is that kicker still out there?
