2019 NFL Mock Draft

Last year on this date, I wrote an article doing my own mock draft using Fanspeak.com. This year I have done the same once again using Fanspeaks rankings and team needs. When drafting I tried to think as much as I could like Ryan Pace addressing concerns early and going after BPA (Best Player Available) or developments in the later rounds.

ROUND 3, PICK 87

DARRELL HENDERSON, RB, MEMPHIS

An AP First-Team All-American this past season, Darrell Henderson has all the assets to be a workhorse runningback in the NFL. Henderson ran for 1,909 yards and 22 touchdowns on 214 carries this past season (8.9 average). Henderson is an extremely explosive and electric back with great speed. He always keeps his feet moving when he runs the ball and is great at fighting for extra yards. He is the type of back that can run people over and also make them miss. There are rumors spiraling around the league that Henderson may be taken at the end of the first round of the draft, but in this situation he fell to me.

ROUND 4, PICK 126

DARNELL SAVAGE, JR., S, MARYLAND

This is another example of a player I did not expect to fall. I couldn't pass the chance to take this all-around solid and versatile safety. Savage can play anywhere on the field with his speed (4.36 40 yard dash) and aggression. He is valued as a little undersized for a safety in the NFL, but besides that, he doesn't have a whole lot of weaknesses. He's very good in coverage and he's very good at downhill running to fill up gaps or run the alley. He never stops running and has an extremely high motor. He is a guy you want on your defense. I think he would be an upgrade from losing Adrian Amos after getting some experience. He's the exact type of guy Ryan Pace would like: explosive, fast, fluid, and can play anywhere on the field. He just wants to play.

ROUND 5, PICK 162

JALEN JELKS, EDGE, OREGON

This addresses the dire need for depth at the Edge rusher position. Bringing Anthony Lynch back was huge, but he gets hurt fairly often along with Leonard Floyd. Jelks was an interior defensive lineman who is entering the draft as an edge. Because of this, his handfighting and toughness is already developed and will really help him rush along the edge. Even being undersized as an interior lineman, his grit and talent helped him produce and be disruptive up front. This would be a great guy to have learning under the good Edge Rushers we have now.

ROUND 7, PICK 222 (FROM DEN VIA PHI)

KENDALL SHEFFIELD, CB, OHIO STATE

This is an example of the BPA I was talking about earlier in the article. Sheffield is inconsistent as an outside corner prospect. The intriguing quality he has is his rare speed and explosiveness. This would be another project to develop. If the Bears could get his ball skills, technique, and his ability to find the football to improve, he could be a real big problem. Plus, his speed and explosiveness is already a great addition to have on special teams. This also simply adds depth to the corner position.

ROUND 7, PICK 238

YOSH NIJMAN, OT, VIRGINIA TECH

Nijman has the ideal size, frame, and length to be a great NFL OT. He has a lot of problems with technique in the pass-blocking and run-blocking phases of his game. This would be another developmental project along with Sheffield. Harry Hiestand is one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL. I think this would be a great pick up for the Bears and a possible great project for Hiestand. At the worst, he adds depth to a position that is in dire need of depth.

Leave a reply if you agree or have any questions or even want to discuss any of these! I truly love Bear discussion with the best fan base in the NFL! Share this if you agree with it too!
