Looking Ahead: The Best Advantages the Chicago Bears Have in 2019

It may be a few months before the 2019-2020 NFL season officially starts, but that won’t stop Bears fans from making predictions about the year ahead.

Call us optimistic, but the Bears have a serious opportunity to be Super Bowl contenders this season. Here’s a peek into their greatest assets for the coming year.

Trubisky’s Momentum

When Mitch Trubisky became the Bears’ quarterback in 2017, he got off to a slow start. Last year, on the other hand, he built up more energy than a solar battery in the desert. He broke through the slump and powered through the season with an amazing 24 touchdown passes.

This year, all the puzzle pieces are in place for Trubisky to have another blockbuster season or, dare we say, an even better year than last year. With the help of the right coach and the right offensive line, he’s taking his potential to the next level and he’s bringing the Bears with him.

The Coaching

We won’t dispute that the early 2010s weren’t the greatest years in Bears history. With his first year as head coach last year, though, Matt Nagy has changed all of that. Nagy’s 12-win season last year took the NFL by surprise, earning him the 2018 NFL Coach of the Year award.

We have full faith that he can take the team even further in 2019-2020.

The Mack-Led Defense

As much of a breakthrough as the Bears’ offense had last year, the defense played an undeniable role in the team’s success and they look to do the same in 2019.

The largest part of the credit needs to go to Khalil Mack. Recognized among the best in the league, Mack is much of the reason the Bears’ defense ranked third among the NFL last year.

Mack alone would make great strides in keeping the Bears’ defense in a strong position, but the team is also fortunate enough to have Eddie Jackson. The young free safety is already making a name for himself as a force to be reckoned with, and we expect that he’ll continue to do so.

There’s nothing holding them the team back from moving up to #1 in 2019.

The Offensive Line

As strong of a year as Mitch Trubisky had last year, part of his success is thanks to the all-star offensive line the Bears assembled and developed. Powerhouses like Whitehair, Massie, and Leno, Jr. have given Trubisky the protection he needs to make waves, and we expect more of the same in the upcoming season.

Tarik Cohen’s Growing Potential

We might sound like a broken record by this point because so many aspects of the Bears’ team have shown great improvement in the past year, but here we are, saying it again about Tarik Cohen.

He may be young in his career, but Cohen is on his way up. He has the advantage of being part of a top-notch offense in 2019, and we expect that he’ll do nothing but improve in the coming year.

A Great Year Ahead

Unless today is your first day as a football fan, you know that every season is unpredictable. Between injuries, upsets, and other twists and turns, anything can happen. As the points above suggest, though, the 2019 Chicago Bears have all the makings of a top contender to win it all and make the Windy City proud.
