With this being the fourth preseason game for the Chicago Bears, the odds of anyone playing that is locked into a job on the 53-man roster are slim. The Bears will have to play a few guys they plan to keep around in 2019, but for the most part the Bears will put out the practice squad candidates and training camp bodies and let them play the entire game. For the young backups trying to impress, this is a good chance to get some reps on film as they try to continue their football career. If an NFL practice squad isn’t in the cards, there’s always the Arena League, the CFL, and the soon to launch XFL to try for.
The final wide receiver, tight end and running back spot for Chicago is a toss up, but also factoring in to that could be a fifth outside linebacker, a fifth inside backer, or a sixth defensive lineman. It’ll be interesting to see where the Bears, and new defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano, go on the defense’s roster construction.
I’ll be checking out this game as usual, but I’ll be paying extra attention to kicker Eddy Pineiro. He looked great a week ago, but he’s back in Soldier Field now, so seeing how the football flies off his foot is something I’ll be watching for.
What are you guys tuning in for tonight?
