Today, Halas Hall has decided to waive Tight End Bradley Sowell, while signing Defensive Tackle Abdullah Anderson in a corresponding move.
Sowell, a converted Offensive lineman (who you may remember from his trick play touchdown grab against the Rams last season), was one of the largest Tight Ends in the league, at 6’7” and 280 lbs. While certainly an interesting player, with Trey Burton, Adam Shaheen, Ben Braunecker and J.P. Holtz all on the roster, the big bodied Sowell was deemed expendable.
With Defensive lineman Bilal Nichols out, Defensive Line depth was likely seen as more important than a 5th Tight End. Thus, Anderson got the call. The Defensive Tackle flashed some ability in the pre-season, notching 9 tackles and a sack in 4 games, but is unlikely to see the field much tonight, baring further injuries (knock on wood).
Pour one out of Bradley Sowell, The Hero of Week 14.
