So the Giants and the Browns at least have the ability to say "We got it wrong with this guy" and cut bait. Kitchens gone after one season. Shurmur after two.

Pace and Nagy, Ted Phillips ...."Nah, we're good. More of the same is coming. What did President Phillips have to say?

1. The Bears’ 8-8 record this season was "unacceptable."

However ...

2. Phillips remains confident in general manager Ryan Pace and Nagy.

So it's okay. It's unacceptable, but really it is acceptable, and nothing will change ....

3. Phillips values continuity and patience.

.... squared.

Changes I would like to see, regardless of cost:

Coaching:

Remove Nagy / Pagano / Helfrich / Hiestand.

Management:
Remove Ryan Pace. He adds no value. He cannot evaluate QB talent.

Hire Greg Roman – he probably won’t want the OC job, make him HC. He had scrubs on his OL today and they still had over 200 yards rushing. RGIII had 96 yards passing. All that was required. He has the Ravens rushing more than anyone in history and turns Lamar Jackson into the QB everyone wants. He could actually build the offense around MT and raise his rating at least ten points just through scheming … if we keep MT.

Saleh won’t want the DC job and I’m not as much of a fan after seeing how he tried to handle Wilson today. He rushed him, didn’t try to contain him. Even the Bears have beaten Wilson playing contain. The rush kept breaking contain and Wilson moved up in the pocket. No A-gap pressure.

I don’t care who the DC is as long as it’s not Pagano. Be in the middle of the table on pressure, not down the bottom. Balance in all things.

Players:

  • Danny T does not need to be retained.
  • Leno can be cut / traded … just be gone.
  • Horsted and Holtz remove the need for any major moves to be made at TE. Use Coward as a blocking TE and return to heavy sets where necessary [ but that ties back in to the presence of Nagy].
  • OT and OG to be drafted.
  • Let’s see what we have in Duke Shelley please.
  • Sign Matt Judon – Ravens OLB – UFA now. Start opposite Mack, or rotate with Mack.

We go with Judon, Mack KPL and Floyd at outside linebacker. Start Kwiat and Roq inside.
QB:

  1. Keep MT and re-sign Chase. See Greg Roman. He built an offense around Lamar and re-invented him. With an OL of 3rd 4th and 6th rounders broke the NFL team rushing record. I think they have one first rounder but he’s injured.
  2. No drafting of QBs. No babysitting. No projects. Have 2 QBs that can play.
  3. Ship MT to Pittsburgh. Big Ben – even if he comes back – how long will he last? Duck Hodges and Rudolph aren’t the guys. Trubisky sounds like a steel-town name.
  4. Sign two of the following available FAs : RGIII.,Matt Moore, Teddy B, Jameis Winston. Ryan Tannehill .. or one of them and retain Chase.
  5. Trade for Minshew, Mullens or Stidham .. and sign either Moore or Teddy B.

JAMEIS WINSTON!!?? 30 INTERCEPTIONS?? [ insert insult here]

If you want to win now, get Jameis. Hear me out.

I know, I know .. .30 interceptions is hard to overlook. But it was a new offense, he was under pressure more than any other QB in the NFL, or in that area [47 sacks… league leader 48]. It happened. He threw 14 interceptions last year [as many as Dalton did this year]. This is a negative, but mainly particular to this season and protection / new offense.

But he also threw for 5000 yards this season … more than any other QB .. .and he threw for more TD passes than any other QB not named Lamar Jackson. Can’t do that if you’re just a bad QB that throws a lot of INTs. He is clearly a talented passer when he wants to be. He also leads the league in number of long completions – he can find targets downfield..

You can’t make a QB great if he’s not, but you can reduce INTs.

It can be reduced to this … he can move an offense up and down the field … he can take advantage of A-Rob and Ridley, Miller etc …loves his TEs, so he adds value to Horsted and Holtz.

MT doesn’t throw a lot of INTs .. but he doesn’t open up the offense like Winston can. MT gives us … meh.

So we can play it safe and go get us a Teddy B and maybe Minshew. Nice setup.

But Jameis has to at least be in the discussion, and if he’s not ….

Any two of the following makes a great QB roster :

Teddy B, RGIII, Tannehill, Moore, Misnhew, Mullens, Stidham.

NO ROOKS.
