In this recent mock draft from Bobby Sylvester of the Fantasy Pros, he has the Chicago Bears addressing two need positions with their two second round picks. With the 43rd overall pick, the one the Bears received from the Oakland Raiders, Sylvester has them going with tight end Jared Pinkney from Vanderbilt, and with their 50th selection it’s Wisconsin outside linebacker Zack Baun.
Before the 2019 season, Pinkney (6’4”, 260) was considered by many to be the top senior tight end prospect in the nation, and even after only playing in eight games (20 receptions, 233 yards, 2 TDs) this seasosn he’s still near the top of some tight end rankings. In fact, this mock has him as the first tight end off the board, so if the actual NFL Draft fell this way, the Bears would have their pick of the position.
It’s also interesting to note that the Bears had a lengthy meeting with Pinkney at the Senior Bowl on Tuesday.
Do you like this selection at 43 overall or would another tight end fit what the Bears are looking for?
The 6’3”, 235 pound Baun may not have 3-4 outside linebacker size, but he had a productive year for the Badgers with 75 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks, while adding an interception returned for a touchdown and 2 forced fumbles. He may fit better as a 4-3 outside backer that occasionally rushes the passer, but I think he could play in either front.
What are your thoughts on this mock?
Which way would you draft if you were pulling the trigger for the Bears has the real draft fell this way?
