Good morning. It’s Week 15 and, thanks to beating the Texans last week, the Bears still cling to some fringe relevancy in December.
Win today, and the Bears remain in the position of rooting fervently against the Cardinals to keep their playoff hopes alive. Lose to the Vikings and, well, the Vikings remain in the position of rooting fervently against the Cardinals to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Just like in the first matchup, the Bears and Vikings find themselves in exactly the same place; only this time, going more or less the same direction. At least this time the Bears aren’t entering the game on a three-game losing skid in the middle of losing six in a row.
Since Mitchell Trubisky picked up the starting reins after the bye week, the Bears’ running game has found some legs against some weaker defenses, from rushing for 63 yards or less in 6 of their 7 games before the bye to rushing for an average of 143 yards per game over the last three. Last week, it culminated in their first 400-yard offensive performance since Week 3 and just the fourth since the start of the 2019 season.
For the Navy and Orange to keep their playoff hopes alive, they’ll have to rely on an until-last-week struggling defense to turn up the pressure on Kirk Cousins and the offense maintaining this late surge. Can the Bears hold up and hold off the Vikings, or will they pillage the Bears’ playoff hopes right out from under them?
Bear Down, my friends.
The WCG Sunday Livestream is many things - happy they found an offensive performance, happy the defense showed up against the Texans, and also pretty sure that thus far it’s not enough to save some jobs at Halas Hall.
Of course, all the usual ways to get a hold of us exist.
