Windy City Gridiron picks Bears-Jaguars

In a playoff push, the Bears must avoid the dreaded trap game against Jacksonville.

The Bears’ 2020 season has not been bereft of drama. After a 5-1 start, which included various gutsy, nail-biting victories, Chicago then dropped six consecutive games. In the third year of the Ryan Pace-Matt Nagy-Mitchell Trubisky era, the Bears were in considerable danger of not only missing out on the postseason, they also had the reasonable thought of cleaning house and “starting over,” so to speak. Such is the nature of a year to year, month to month, week to week, and sometimes even day to day league.

Two sound wins over the Texans and Vikings to right the ship may not have completely quelled the passionate calls for metaphorical heads on pikes. Far from it. But they are enough to keep the Bears alive and kicking into late December. Their playoff odds still far from robust, they’re at least playing relevant football come the holiday season.

To keep that train rolling, the Bears must now overcome the beyond hapless Jaguars. If there were ever a trap game for a team chasing a final playoff spot, it would be against a 1-13 opponent on Christmas weekend. Fortunately for the Bears, the Jaguars might be playing themselves into their own trap with an earnest victory. That is, if they like faces of the franchise with Thor-like locks, anyway.

Whatever the case, the Bears can’t afford another defeat at this late stage in the year.

Show up. Punch in. Punch out.

Happy Holidays, everyone!
