Good morning. It’s Week 16 and we’re talking about... Playoffs?!
As strange as it may be, a team that suffered a six-game losing streak now finds itself buoyed by its hot 5-1 start and, with the loss by the Cardinals yesterday, is in position to make the playoffs with a Cardinals loss in Week 17 or by just winning both its final two games.
Having that 7th playoff seed sure doesn’t hurt.
The Bears spent the first eleven games of the season sputtering along on offense with no identity, no idea how to make anything work, en route to an offense only bested in ineptitude by the New York Jets. Three weeks later and, while the total ranks still aren’t there (but climbing up to 27th in total offensive yardage!), averaging 33 points per game against some of these bad defenses is not too shabby, considering that for a long stretch, playing against the Bears’ offense was a get-well game for bad defenses.
After a spotty transitional period, Bill Lazor, David Montgomery and Mitchell Trubisky have found a way to make it work.
Now they just have to dodge the Mike Glennon Revenge Game, as the former Bears quarterback placeholder gets the quarterback placeholder spot err, the start today for the in-the-running-for-Trevor-Lawrence Jaguars. It’s the NFL, and the Jets found a way to beat the Rams, so don’t let up. Do that, and it’s win-and-in against the Packers in Week 17 to make the playoffs.
Just like we drew it up, right?
To 8-7. Bear Down, my friends.
The WCG Sunday Livestream is both interested in the Bears making the playoffs and also counting the ways the Bears and Packers can rip the hearts out of Bears fans hoping for a surprise deep playoff run. Robert Zeglinski joins the guys as we talk about this rollercoaster of a season.
