Bears Poll of the Day: Pat Fitzgerald or Jim Harbaugh

The Chicago Bears haven’t even fired their current head coach, Matt Nagy, yet rumors and speculation have been popping up for weeks now about who will be his replacement. Two names with Chicago ties have been frequently mentioned and both are currently coaching in the Big 10, Pat Fitzgerald and Jim Harbaugh.

Northwestern’s Fitzgerald has been rumored to be a target of NFL teams a few times now, and since Northwestern, located in nearby Evanston, Illinois, is “Chicago’s Big Ten Team,” him and the Bears just make sense to many.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer recently wrote that he heard “that the Bears would probably be the only team he’d (Fitzgerald) consider.”

CBS Sports’ Jason LaConfora reported that Fitzgerald “will be at the top” of the Bears wish list if they move on from Nagy.

At this point there isn’t anything linking Michigan’s Harbaugh to Chicago, but speculation has been running wild considering he played quarterback for the Bears from 1987 to 1993, and reports are that he is looking to jump back to the NFL.

His four years with the 49ers (2011 to 2014) saw his teams make three NFC championship games and a Super Bowl appearance in 2012. His time with the Wolverines hasn’t been what he had hoped, but he has a .690 winning percentage in his six years there, a .580 winning percentage in his four years coaching at Stanford, and .695 during his time with the ‘Niners.

If the Bears do fire Nagy, and that’s an extremely likely if after six straight losses, there will be an exhaustive search before a new head coach is hired, but if it comes down to Fitzgerald or Harbaugh, who ya got?

I’m not too keen on either of these guys being hired in Chicago, but if it does come down to Fitzgerald or Harbaugh, give me the guy with the NFL on his resume.
