We’re still waiting on those Chicago Bears’ contract restructures and that “one major extension,” that The Athletic’s Adam Jahns tweeted about yesterday, but the Bears did dabble in free agency over the weekend by adding two former first round draft picks. Neither has lived up to the hype, but one will add depth and special teams ability (Barkevious Mingo) while the other will hope a change of scenery and scheme could unlock his potential (Artie Burns).
The full list of Bears’ transactions can be found below the horizontal line, and for the latest news and rumors today just keep reading as we’ll be updating this tracker all day long...
5:13 PM: Corner Jimmy Smith, who was rumored to have talked with the Bears, has signed with the Ravens. (link)
3:39 PM: Biggs also has news on a pending DeAndre Houston-Carson re-signing. (link)
2:08 PM: Today is the day that NFL teams can start to sign XFL players (QB P.J. Walker already signed with the Panthers) and Brad Biggs tweeted out the following good point, “NFL teams did not get tape from XFL games until last Thursday. So, there could be a slow trickle of signings as NFL scouts get up to speed with potential players.”
11:56 PM: Defensive lineman Brent Urban is back with the Bears according to his wife. (link)
10:54 AM: It was assumed they were back, but until recently neither J.P. Holtz or Rashaad Coward were listed on the team’s roster on their website. Both are now listed, so it’s safe to assume they were tendered an offer at some point. (link)
9:00 AM: Add Brad Biggs to the list of media members that believe that Nick Foles was acquired to the the starting quarterback for the Bears. (link)
Weekend News/Rumors: The Bears signed three new players and didn’t lose any, but their 2021 compensation pick projection still has them at four sixth-rounders. The Tony Jefferson thing is still alive on Bears Twitter, but nothing from any beat writers.
