ESPN’s Field Yates is reporting that the Chicago Bears are bringing back quarterback Tyler Bray on a one-year deal.
Bray has served as Chicago’s number three QB the last two years, bouncing between the main roster and the practice squad, partly because of his understanding of the Matt Nagy offense. With the current coronavirus pandemic altering some offseason dates, perhaps the Bears wanted to ensure they’d have another guy on the roster that knows the system.
Also, the new CBA allows for a couple of spots on the practice squad to be taken by anyone regardless of the number of accrued seasons, so Bray is once again eligible.
He’s clearly not an upgrade over Mitchell Trubisky or Nick Foles, but keeping a veteran in the system all offseason can’t hurt.
I just hope this doesn’t stop the Bears from also adding a young quarterback in the draft or as an undrafted free agent, because you never know how young QBs take to professional coaching.
What are your thoughts on the Bears bringing Bray back?
