With the 43rd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears have selected Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet.

With the importance of the tight end position for head coach Matt Nagy, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised they valued Kmet at this point in the draft.

Kmet is a 6’6”, 262 pounder from Lake Barrington, Illinois, and while he has the size to play the Y (in-line) position, he’ll need to work on his blocking ability at the NFL level. Kmet has good straight line speed as evidenced by his 4.7 forty, but it’ll be his post-up ability size and 37 inch vertical that will make him a weapon for the Bears.

As a junior last year for the Fighting Irish, he put up 43 receptions, for 515 yards, with 6 touchdowns.

Kmet joins a crowded tight end room in Chicago with new additions Jimmy Graham and Demetrius Harris, along with holdovers Ben Braunecker, J.P. Holtz, Jesper Horsted, and several others, but his skill-set will come in handy for the Bears.
