Mock draft season has been in full swing for a while now, so I’m sure you guys have had the chance to peruse several mocks to see how the experts have the Chicago Bears drafting.
We’ve shared a bunch in our Mocking the Mocks series, some of us WCG writers have done a few, plus we even had a WCG user mock where you guys made all the picks, so by now you’ve probably seen a number of names pop up that you simply don’t like.
Maybe it’s a guy you deem as a poor scheme fit, or a player at a position you think the Bears don’t really need based on the value, or maybe it’s a prospect with some red flags that you’ve seem mocked to the Bears.
For me, it’s when I see a mock draft giving the Bears a tight end in the second round. Before free agency, and Chicago’s addition of Jimmy Graham, this was more common, but even now I still see mocks and social media draftniks talking up the Bears need to draft a tight end at either 43 or 50.
I just don’t see the value in taking that position at either of those two spots.
When I run through different mock draft scenarios there is better value at offensive line, defensive back, and especially wide receiver for the Bears in the second round. I don’t think this tight end class is horrible, I’d just rather see the Bears spend their draft capital on better football players. If the Bears are picking best player available early in the draft, there’s no way a tight end ends up at that spot.
I’m also not fond of seeing mocks that give the Bears wide receivers that aren’t speedsters. The Bears have a decent group of wide outs, but the one thing the room is missing is a blazer that can take the top off a defense.
What about you guys?
Is there a position or a specific player you hope the Bears will avoid on draft weekend?
