On Monday the Chicago Bears placed rookie running back Artavis Pierce on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
This new designation is for players that have either tested positive for the coronavirus or have come into contact with someone that has tested positive. Per the NFL/NFLPA policy teams aren’t allowed to comment on players that receive this designation. While Pierce is in quarantine, he will not count towards the Bears 80-man offseason roster limit.
He was was one of 18 players around the NFL to be placed on this list on Monday.
Pierce, an undrafted free agent from Oregon State, was set to compete for a reserve running back spot with his former college teammate Ryan Nall and fellow undrafted rookie Napoleon Maxwell. David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen are the other two running backs on the current offseason roster.
The Bears still have four roster spots to clear before camp officially opens on Tuesday, July 28, otherwise if they are above 80 they’ll need to practice with a split squad.
