As the Chicago Bears learned in 2019, NFL fans are quick to point fingers when their favorite team’s offense implodes. Some will immediately blame the quarterback, others will point to the offensive line, others will blame wide receivers and runningbacks, and many will scrutinize the coaching and play-calling. But while fans can use film study to evaluate player performance, how do we separate a play-caller from the execution of his players?

Simply put, it takes a lot of study.

Thankfully, Bears fans have someone who’s put in the time to learn and map out the entirety of Matt Nagy’s playbook, so much so that he literally wrote a book on the 2018 Chicago Bears offense, and this makes him the perfect person to interview about this topic. Therefore, in the latest episode of Bear With Me, I bring on Bobby Peters to talk through...

  • What makes a good play-caller?
  • What changed in Nagy’s offense between 2018 and 2019?
  • Does Nagy adjust his offense to fit his players? If so, how?
  • What kinds of reads does a “Nagy quarterback” need to make? Which reads does Trubisky struggle most with?
  • What should we expect from Nagy and the Bears’ offense in 2020?
  • And much, much more...

Check out the show below and let me know what you think!

What do YOU think? Are you satisfied with Nagy’s play-calling and play design? What do you want to see more of in 2020?
