The Chicago Bears may have suffered their first loss of the season today, as Artie Burns was reportedly carted off during practice and now word comes down from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that it was a dreaded ACL tear:

Burns was brought in as a free agent from Pittsburgh, where he failed to live up to his first round draft status after four years.
He played at Miami (Fla.) and was a first round pick in 2016.
It was just reported yesterday that Burns was the starter in practice on the right side, opposite Kyle Fuller.
This will either open the door for rookie Jaylon Johnson, the second round draft pick out of Utah or perhaps for veteran Kevin Toliver.
Most didn’t think Burns was going to hold on to the starting spot, but it is still a loss for one of the few starting battles on defense.
Either way this is now a very intriguing starting battle now that’s lost a competitor.
