Good morning. Welcome to the 2020 NFL season.
It did not dawn on me that the season would go on until the moment the Bears reported for training camp. Even then, seeing Thursday’s actual NFL game had to jar me back to “Oh, right, football.”
Yet, here we are. Mitchell Trubisky took the reins of the starting job as he heads into his fourth season. Nick Foles, the guy the Bears traded a fourth-round pick to and signed an extension with, is the backup. Robert Quinn, prized free agent acquisition, is listed as doubtful. Sounds about right for the Bears in 2020, yeah?
But the Bears start this year against the Detroit Lions, and if Mitch was going to start against any team in the NFL, he’d probably pick the team he has a 70% completion percentage, an 11-4 TD-INT ratio and an 106.3 QB rating against.
Will his decent performances against Detroit continue, or will the calls for Foles continue to grow? Only one way to find out.
For the first time this year... Bear Down, my friends.
————————————————————————————
We have a quarterback competition, the addition of Quinn, and we have the weirdness of the Tom Brady era ending in New England. We have two new tight ends, revamping arguably the Bears’ worst position group in 2019. We have “continuing kicker drama” as Eddy Piniero goes to short-term IR and Cairo Santos is signed to the active roster, and of course, more.
There’s a lot to cover and only two hours to cover it, so if you want to get your questions, comments, and opinions out to us, there are several ways to do that:
- Here. There may be a new comment system (of which the higher-ups are hearing and have heard critiques and improvements), but as long as your comments are still here, so are we to read them.
- The Twitch page itself, over at Steven’s channel
- And our Twitter pages. Steven’s at @SJS_illini, Sam’s at @SamHouseholder, Jeff’s at @gridironborn, and the main WCG page is @WCGridiron.
As usual, we’ll see you at 9:30 AM CT.
