Doing these Power Ranking compilations are a heck of a lot more fun when the Chicago Bears are winning games. Even if its early in the season and some analysts aren’t quite sure what to make of the 2-0 Bears yet, I’ll still take this over checking on on what the experts think after Bears’ losses.
Going in to this I’m assuming the Bears will get a slight uptick by most, but you never can tell with some of these sites, so let’s see where they fall this week.
CBS Sports has Chicago up 2 places to 18th overall.
Mitch Trubisky is 2-0. Think about that. Now give him credit. He’s done some good things to get them going to start the season.
Sports Illustrated has the Bears at 14 overall.
Matt Nagy and his staff have done an admirable job keeping the Mitch Trubisky train in motion. The Bears could be good enough to remain in the hunt for a seventh playoff spot this year if the quarterback continues to develop.
The Bears are up 3 spots according to ESPN, and they gave a fantasy player to keep an eye on for each team.
17. Chicago Bears (2-0)
Under-the-radar fantasy standout: WR Darnell Mooney
In Week 2, Mooney finished with three receptions on three targets for 36 yards and a touchdown. He played 39 snaps against the Giants, more than veteran wideouts Javon Wims (29), Anthony Miller (26) and Ted Ginn Jr. (healthy inactive). The Bears are clearly high on Mooney, a rookie fifth-round pick out of Tulane who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds at the NFL combine. Don’t be surprised to see Mooney play a substantial role every week, especially since Miller, who is supposed to be Chicago’s No. 2 wideout after Allen Robinson II, is still struggling in the consistency department. — Jeff Dickerson
Here’s how the Pro Football Network has it.
19) Chicago Bears (2-0)
The Mitch Trubisky-led Bears are 2-0. They certainly don’t look like one of the league’s better teams, but you can’t argue with undefeated. It is also very encouraging that Chicago got David Montgomery on track to the tune of 127 total yards.
Yahoo Sports has the Bears up 5 spots. .
15. Chicago Bears (2-0, LW: 15)
David Montgomery had his best game as a pro, with 127 total yards and a touchdown. Montgomery needs to keep playing like that because there’s not a ton else to love about the offense. The Bears have two very close wins, and no team will turn down 2-0, but they’ll need to play better.
NFL.com has the Bears up to 19 from 22 last week.
The Bears are never going to be world-beaters with Mitchell Trubisky under center, but so far, it’s been good enough for 2-0. Trubisky threw two quick touchdown passes against the Giants, and when the offense stalled out in the second half, the defense took it home with a game-saving red-zone stand to secure the win. Chicago needs Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn to lead the way on defense, and they did that on Sunday: Mack had a sack and fumble recovery, and Quinn added a sack and forced fumble in his Bears debut. Chicago needs to force turnovers and shorten fields for the offense to win games.
Here’s how Athlon Sports has it this week.
15. Chicago Bears - Last week: 18
The team still needs to learn how to put teams away but a win is a win two weeks in a row. Neither of them were pretty but who thought we’d see a 2-0 squad and Mitchell Trubisky looking like he’s stepping up his play for that contract extension?
Pro Football Talk has it like this.
16. Bears (No. 21; 2-0): September victories are money in the bank, and they build confidence for the battles to come.
