According to NFL Trade Rumors, these are the four players the Chicago Bears will protect from being signed away this week.
QB - Tyler Bray
RB - Artavis Pierce
OL - Jamon Brown
K- Cairo Santos
The four-man protected list is a new wrinkle to the practice squad this year and it prevents the other teams from making them a contract offer. Teams need to submit their protected list to the league by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.
My guess is that Bray will be a weekly protected player as he’s the Bears’ 3rd-string signal caller.
There was some buzz surrounding Pierce at training camp, plus with starter David Montgomery nursing a groin injury, protecting another tailback is good insurance.
Brown, a recently signed six year veteran is likely to work his way onto the active roster once he gets up to speed.
And Santos is probably going to get called up with Eddy Pineiro heading to the injured reserve list.
