Chicago Bears kicker Cairo Santos has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month after going a perfect 12 for 12 on field goals to close out the 2020 season. He was also 16 for 17 on extra points in that time, with his lone miss being blocked.
On the season he was 30 of 32 in field goals with a long of 55 yards, and 36 of 37 in extra points. He set the Bears all-time record with 27 consecutive field goals made, plus his 97.3% oo field goals made is a new franchise record as well.
While his kickoff touchback percentage of .488 is one of the leagues worst, the Bears only allow 20.4 yards per kickoff return, which is among the league’s best. That’s partly due to the Bears’ coverage teams, but also due to Santos’s directional kicking ability.
The Bears have had a long journey to replace Robbie Gould, but it appears they finally found their guy. The next step would be to sign the free agent to be to a new contract.
