The Chicago Bears will be a bit shorthanded when they travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders this weekend with four players already ruled out. One we knew about but the other three were unexpected. The Bears are also likely going to be without one of their top defenders on Sunday.
Here’s Friday’s full report from the Bears.
- David Montgomery, RB (Knee) - Out
- J.P. Holtz, TE (Quad) - Out
- Jesse James, TE (Personal) - Out
- Joel Iyiegbuniwe, ILB (Hamstring) - Out
- Akiem Hicks, DL (Groin) -
DoubtfulOut - Khalil Mack, OLB (Ribs/foot) - Questionable
- Christian Jones, LB (Back) - Questionable
- Tashaun Gipson Sr., S (Hamstring) - Questionable
- Jesper Horsted, TE (Knee) - Questionable
It’s not all bad news for the Bears, because their second string quarterback is returning after his bone bruise is all healed up. With Andy Dalton back — he was a full participant all week — expect to see QB3 Nick Foles inactive on Sunday. Also, running back Damien Williams wasn’t hampered all week from the quad injury he suffered against the Lions, so he’ll look to keep the Chicago running game on track. Darnell Mooney also has no injury designation for the first time this year.
With Holtz and James both out at tight end, I would expect to see Horsted make his season debut, and considering he practiced in full all week he should be fine on Sunday.
Considering that Mack was named a captain this week, I don’t believe his injury designation will matter one bit. He’ll play.
Gipson practiced in full all week, so he should be able to start on Sunday.
Hicks finally got in some limited practice today, but I could see the team downgrading him to out on Saturday. My guess is that he takes this Sunday off, but Hicks has been known to battle through injuries before.
UPDATE: Hicks has been ruled out.
Here’s how the Las Vegas Raiders list their injury report.
- Damon Arnette, CB (Groin) -
OutPlaced on IR - Trayvon Mullen Jr., CB (Toe) -
OutPlaced on IR - Derek Carrier, TE (Pectoral) -
OutPlaced on IR - Peyton Barber, RB (Toe) - Questionable
Mullen is one of their starting corners, and Arnette has been their top reserve at the position. Some that cover the Raiders believe their secondary has been an issue all year long.
