Bears sign Bruce Irvin to the active roster, place Cassius Marsh on IR

More bad injury news for the Bears…

NFL: Chicago Bears at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

On Friday the Chicago Bears placed outside linebacker Cassius Marsh on injured reserve, and to take his place on the active roster they signed outside linebacker Bruce Irvin from their practice squad.

Marsh was practicing all week, and then on Friday he popped up on the injury report with a knee issue. The soonest he could return would be for the week 17 game, but the speed in which they put him on IR leads me to believe it could be season ending. If the specifics of the injury come out we’ll be sure to update this article.

The 34-year old Irvin was signed to the Bears practice squad in mid November and he made his Bears debut last Sunday playing 17 snaps on defense and making 1 tackle.

The Bears have been hit hard with the injury bug at linebacker with Marsh joining Jeremiah Attaochu, Danny Trevathan, and Khalil Mack all on IR. Their practice squad, which has one opening now, currently has linebackers Sam Kamara, Charles Snowden and Ledarius Mack all waiting for an opportunity.
