I suppose we can file this is the no-brainer category, because when it leaks that a seven-time Pro Bowl quarterback has interest in your team, of course you’re going to do your due diligence. But it’s still good to see the report that the Chicago Bears are indeed exploring what’s going on between the Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson.
In case you missed it, Wilson’s agent has mentioned four teams that Wilson would be interested in waiving his no trade clause to go to, and the Bears were one of them.
On a radio segment on Seattle’s 950 KJR earlier today, the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo talked about what he knows in regards to the Bears and their pursuit of Wilson.
“The Bears, who I think I mentioned to you last time, would do cartwheels to get Russell Wilson at this point,” Garafolo told KJR. “They have been really persistent, from what I’m told, in reciprocating the interest,” that Wilson’s agent floated.
Garafolo did go on to say that he believes the Seahawks have every intention on keeping Wilson for at least one more season, but where there’s smoke there’s usually fire, and right now the two sides are smoldering.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to see the Bears linked to an available QB, as this offseason it’s critical that general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy upgrade that position.
Right now the only quarterback under contract in Chicago is Nick Foles, but that’s sure to change between now and draft weekend.
The 2021 league year officially opens up on March 17, at which time trades can become official and free agency begins, with the NFL Draft starting on April 29.
The first quarterback domino to fall this offseason was Carson Wentz going to the Colts, but with Wilson seemingly unhappy and Deshaun Watson reiterating he has no intention to return to the Texans, the next couple months could get really interesting.
