Bears re-sign Deon Bush to 1-year deal

Bears bring back depth safety with Fangio/Desai experience

NFL: Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Per Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are bringing back 2016 4th round pick Deon Bush on yet another 1-year deal, his second in a row with the team.

Having been with the team since 2016, Bush has both practice-field and in-game experience in the Fangio/Desai Cover-2-heavy defense the 2021 Bears are likely to run and puts a replacement-level safety on the roster next to Eddie Jackson.

With contract terms not yet released it’s impossible to know what the cap implications are from this deal but I imagine they’re fairly low — Bush may be looking for an opportunity to prove himself as a starting NFL safety while the Bears keep costs low, so decent play from Bush could go a long way towards improving his 2021 market.

That said, I doubt the Bears are done adding at safety with only Jackson and Bush on the roster, so we’ll have to see how things play out as Free Agency continues. With the right market, they may yet add another.

Keep in locked at WCG for all the Bears’ breaking news and be sure to follow the team on social media as well.
